Puppy Lower Canines – Important Information
As responsible breeders, we are aware that some of our puppies experience some difficulty with their baby lower canines
When the lower jaw develops slower than the upper jaw, it will be narrower and the lower canines will be forced to grow straight up and into the upper pallet, rather than curved outwards and lay on the outsides of the upper pallet.
If your puppy has this alignment problem, you will be informed and there is a very simple solution. We will also demonstrate the procedure before you take the puppy home.
We have never had an adult with tooth alignment problems if this suggested regime is followed faithfully…..
Every day, 3-4 times every day, when you are cuddling with your puppy, gently open the jaw and with your fingers, push OUTWARDS on the lower canines to encourage them to grow outside of the upper pallet.
Your vet may suggest a doggie dentist. Please consult with us before taking this expensive, unnecessary step! A doggie dentist is only necessary in the most severe cases of which we believe is NOT the situation in our puppies. With daily manipulation, your puppy’s adult canines will come in nicely – both uppers and lowers – but you MUST make the effort to do the manual manipulation DAILY.
If you fail to take the time with your puppy’s teeth now, while they are still in the state to be “influenced”, the lower canines can puncture the upper pallet, making eating difficult and painful for your puppy until the baby teeth naturally fall out at about 5-6 months of age.
So, if your vet insists on tooth removal, or other drastic measures, we recommend that you call us and we can recommend a vet for a second opinion. As, in our experience, with Isle Of Poodle puppies, surgery is rarely ever required.
